Dr. Nishad Udugampola
As a professional citizen of this country, it is a great pleasure to me, to be able to form an institute like OTEK - School of Computing & Professional Studies in helping our society in its drive towards an eCommunity and a technical hub in the region.
We at OTEK recognize that ICT is the only tool that will cross or break all geographical and social barriers and reach out all in rural, suburb, disadvantaged and vulnerable communities, and we strongly believe the importance of creating an information society in all part of Sri Lanka fast. We are now looking forward and stay committed to transform the information society to a knowledge culture in the decade to come.
Our youth must be fully armed to face the future with confidence. Knowledge of ICT will not only empower them but will also allow them to be a part of the global village with ease and efficiency.
In this context it is timely that an event of this magnitude is happening in Sri Lanka this year, 2009, which the government has declared as the Year of English language and IT.
It is up to all of us to ensure that these are not just dreams, that we achieve each and every one of these goals and objectives, and events of this nature are definitely a significant milestone in this respect.
Last but not the least, ICT will also help Sri Lankans to truly integrate and work towards becoming a cohesive nation. From North to South and East to West, people will communicate with each other using ICT and enhance communal harmony.
